Agenda

Day 1

A Practical Framework for RTP® & FedNow® Readiness

Kevin Olsen, The Payments Professor

Instant payments move at the speed of trust. RTP® and FedNow® deliver real-time settlement, but they also compress decision windows, elevate fraud exposure and change how risk must be identified, measured and controlled. Together, we’ll walk through a practical, examiner-ready approach to conducting an instant payments risk assessment. Using RTP® and FedNow® as the primary lenses, we will break down how risk shifts when payments are irrevocable, always-on and client-initiated. Attendees will learn how to identify inherent risks across fraud, compliance, liquidity, operational resilience, third-party dependencies and client impact, then map those risks to mitigating controls, monitoring and governance. We will connect network rules, regulatory expectations and real-world operating practices into a single, usable assessment framework that banks and credit unions can apply immediately. Designed for compliance, risk, operations, audit and payments teams, this session focuses on how to actually perform the assessment, not just talk about it.

Day 2

Building a Resilient Cyber & Data Privacy Program in the Payments Ecosystem

David Croft, Meyers, Roman, Friedberg & Lewis

Payment processors and financial institutions operate in one of the most highly targeted and highly regulated cybersecurity environments. Companies of all sizes must maintain effective and efficient cybersecurity and data privacy programs to protect sensitive data, ensure operational resilience and comply with an expanding landscape of laws and regulations. We will explore the unique cyber and privacy risks facing the payments ecosystem, including threats to sensitive data, transaction integrity and business continuity. While cybersecurity and data privacy address distinct areas of risk and compliance, integrating these programs is critical to managing an organization’s overall risk profile. Participants will gain practical insights into building and maintaining a comprehensive, robust and resilient cyber and privacy risk program, regulatory requirements and real-world threat scenarios. The session will culminate in an interactive tabletop exercise that allows attendees to apply the concepts learned by responding to a simulated cyber incident affecting an organization.

Regulation E Disputes

Jennifer Aguilar, Alston & Bird

Financial institutions receive countless disputes from consumers related to debit card purchases, ranging from unauthorized transactions to issues with goods and services.  Depending on the type of dispute involved, the claim may be covered under Regulation E, card network chargeback rules or both.  This session will help you understand the different types of disputes and the applicable regulations and rules.  We’ll also discuss common pitfalls and questions related to dispute handling, and walk through some case studies.
